Nearly all Riverside County Sheriff's callsigns are comproised of a numeric prefix, an alphabetical designator, and a 1-3 digit sector/sub-designation. The numeric prefix signifies the Watch as follows. Not every unit will use this:
1 = Graveyard (22-8) 2 = Day (7-17) 3 = Swing (Afternoon)(13-23)
The alphabetical designation indications the particular division or sub-division as follows:
ADAM = Colorado River BAKER = Unincorporated Cabazon CALIMESA = Calimesa City Contract CANYON = Canyon Lake Contract CHARLES = Unincorporated Thermal DAVID = Unincoporated Hemet E-C = Electronic Confinement (Home Arrest Monitoring) EDWARD = Unincorporated Jurupa Valley E-S = Emergency Services Team FRANK = Unincorporated Lake Elsinore GANG = Gang Unit GEORGE = Norco City Contract H-D = Hazardous Device Team JOHN = Indian Wells City Contract IDA = San Jacinto City Contract JURUPA = Jurupa Valley Contract L-A = La Quinta City Contract LINCOLN = Lake Elsinore City Contract MOTOR = Motor Enforcement (countywide) OCEAN = Unincorporated Palm Desert P-C = Unincorporated Perris PAUL = Special Ops (usually DUI Checkpoints, Truancy Sweeps, etc.) PERRIS = Perris City Contract POSSE = Mounted Posse (Horses) ROBERT = Drug/Narcotic Enforcement (also Canines) SAM = Rancho Mirage City Contract SET = Special Enforcement Teams STAR = Air Support SOUTHWEST = Unincorporated Southwest TEMECULA = Temecula City Contract TOM = Palm Desert City Contract WILDOMAR = Wildomar City Contract X-RAY = Code Enforcement (separate department, uses to communicate with RSO) YOUNG = Coachella City Contract ZEBRA = Auto Theft Interdiction
The last 1-3 digits reperesent the patrol sector, or unit sub-sector, breaking down as follows:
- 1-99 are always regular patrol deputies (numeric assignments vary station to station).
- 1xx units are Patrol Sergeants/Supervisors.
- 2xx units are Detectives
- 3xx are Community Service Officers (CSOs) or Sheriff Service Officers (SSOs) countywide.
- 4xx are Special units usually Motor/Traffic Duty or Bike assignments, Gangs, city-specific teams.
- 5xx are also Special Teams, Problem Oriented Police (POP) deputies, etc.
- 7xx are Reserves/Volunteers.

- 3 Charles 50 - Working third watch, assigned to unincorporated Thermal beat 50
- 2 Tom 30 - Working 2nd watch (days), assigned to Palm Desert, Beat 30.
- 2 Motor 434 Working 2nd Watch assigned to Motor Enforcement
